Fleurope (Grundtvig I)
The Fleurope project came under the remit of the Grundtvig I Programme.

The aim of the Grundtvig programme is to address the teaching and learning needs of institutions and individuals involved in adult education. In particular, it aims to respond to the challenge of an ageing population and to provide pathways for adults to improve their knowledge and competences.
Grundtvig addresses all adult learners who, at whatever stage of their lives, wish to increase their capacity to play a full and active role in society, to develop their intercultural awareness, to improve or update their general skills or to enhance their capacity to enter or re-enter formal education.

It also concerns people of whatever age who have left school without basic qualifications, and parental and family learning of all kinds. Special attention is given to encouraging activities relating to persons lacking basic education and qualifications, people living in rural or disadvantaged areas or who are disadvantaged for socio-economic reasons, persons belong to other "hard to reach" groups reluctant to take part in lifelong learning, and disabled persons with special educational needs.
What is Fleurope?

The project focused on providing new opportunities in accessible vocational education, employment and personal fulfilment for rural women across Europe. In order to achieve this, existing practices were compared and conclusions drawn for the appropriate educational strategies, teaching methods and products.

The objectives of the Project

The objectives of the project were to unite the young people of the village, teaching them to work in teams, encourage them to strive for agreed goals, create conditions to enable young people to get involved in interesting activities, educate them, raise their public spirit and activate rural cultural life by organising different events.

Exchange Project: "Be Young and Active in the Country"
The aims of the project were to get acquainted with the life of the young French people and help to organise their free time, to motivate them to do voluntary work for the well-being of their village and country, to develop skills and new competencies and to encourage young people to be interested in innovation.

What was the outcome of the project?

The result was a handbook "from practice to be put into practice" which can be used for instigating learning processes in disadvantaged regions. The handbook produced can also be accessed on the Fleurope website. It has been translated into the individual languages of the participating countries.

Potential users of the handbook are "teachers" (trainers, study advisors, project developers, educational establishments) as well as "learners" (people living in rural areas).
